How about some fun with that?

Fun-in-the-sun

Are grown ups too serious? Does life have to be such a struggle, a fight? Does everything always have to have a purpose? Why can’t we do things just for the sheer fun of it?

I’ve been thinking a lot about my father and how I don’t remember a time growing up where I ever saw him let loose and have fun. I don’t remember him laughing so hard that the tears are rolling down his face. I don’t recall where he acted like a ‘big kid’ or did something spontaneous. I think he has missed out by being so grown up all the time.  I suppose that is probably why I work so hard to be the opposite of him.

I still love all the things I loved as a child from tree houses, kaleidoscopes, secret doors to games like musical chairs. I rebel against making lists because personally for me it takes the unexpected spontaneity out of life and makes it too rigid and routine. If the atmosphere is getting to serious, I find myself trying to crack a joke or come up with a silly activity. I love to search out fun websites. Improv Everywhere  is one of my favourites along with The Bubble Project. The only news I sometimes read is “Off beat’ news because of its humorous tales. I cherish most of all in other people is if they have a big imagination, a childlike curiosity and a wonder about the world.

As always I will end with some quotes about fun

Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been – Mark Twain
You can’t help getting older but you don’t have to get old- George Burns
Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive- Bill Cosby
