I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a feeling that there is something more significant, a bigger life in me that I haven’t yet discovered. It’s definitely nothing to do with becoming famous, or rich, more to do with completing a big personal challenge whether it be exploring the world or a large creative endeavor. I get this chilling thrill inside just thinking about it.
There is this myth that we only use 10% of our brain power. I know this is untrue but I still like to believe that everyone has a whole lot of unused potential inside waiting to be tapped into. Maybe we are just not thinking big enough? It’s like we place an invisible lid or ceiling on ourselves in relation to class, income, gender and work. We settle, let life plateau and stop asking those big audacious questions about ourselves like why not aim higher?
Earlier this year, I was involved in Jury duty. The biggest lesson I took away from this experience is the great power but also dangers of thought. It is very easy to think yourself into a corner where you stop seeing choices and opportunities and believe that a particular pathway is the only pathway to take. I was really saddened by this lesson because in this case it lead to a tragic outcome.
On a much lighter note, there are people in the world who are inspirational. They have dared to stretch beyond what is believed to be possible. Check out these podcast episodes below. I hope they leave you with a little thrill inside like they left me and a realization that if they can do it, anyone can.
1) Podcast Zero to Travel episode 12 “Riding 16000 Miles Blind”
I love this episode about a legally blind couple, Tauru and Christi who purchased a tandem bicycle and pedaled 16000 miles from Ushuaia, Argentina to Alaska. Yes, they were shit scared. Yes, they fell over many times but they did it. They didn’t let their vision impairment stop them from taking on a big travelling adventure.
2) Podcast Roz Savage’s Adventure Podcast episode 10 “Geoff Holt”
This episode is about Geoff Holt who has been in a wheelchair since the age of 18. This didn’t stop him from being the first quadriplegic to sail solo around Britain and then sail solo across the Atlantic.
3) Podcast Freedom Fast Lane episode 8 “Nicholas Steele: Developing An Unbreakable Spirit”
What an amazing life story this one is. Nicholas Steele was paralyzed after a tree fell on him. He refused to listen to everyone saying he will never walk again. The plasticity of the brain is amazing if you have the right attitude and don’t give up.
