Reasons to Slow Travel: In Search for a New Life and Home

If you could live anywhere where would you live? It is an exciting question isn’t it? It dawned on me that you can go through life not making active decisions about what you want to do, where you want to live, who you want to be around. It is easy to let life happen to you and not be an active participate in planning and creating your life.

When my long term relationship ended back in 2010, I luckily had a lot of time (7 years in fact) to think about what I wanted to do and where I wanted to live. I initially thought about getting a small unit close to work in Joondalup. Then I thought about moving closer to my family in Mandurah. I realised I was grasping for the familar. These lives would be safe and secure but I would be staying in my small bubble of a world. Here I was with very few commitments and so many opportunities in front of me and I felt pulled to follow the safe well trodden path.

‘Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.’ (Robert Frost)

So after a lot of reflection, library book reading and listening to heaps of podcasts, I came up with a plan to slow travel around the world for at least a year. I found out about house sitting websites and became excited about the idea of being able to care for pets, explore more slowly a town/city and at the same time save money to keep travelling.

So this is where you can help. Can you recommend a special town or city for BB to stay in and perhaps live?

For my nearly 40 years, I have lived only in two places- on a small farm and in Perth city. Whilst I am slow travelling around the world I would love to explore where I could possibly move to next. I would love to find that special town or city:
*Where the residents are welcoming to newcomers and are friendly. Where people say hello and like to chat.
*Where the town/city has beautiful buildings and nature to sketch and photograph.
*Where there are lots of walking trails and hikes to explore
*Where it is safe for a female to jog around the streets even in the evening.
*Where there is an active art and craft community.
*Where the town/city has some quirky character, something unique that makes you laugh.
*Where the weather doesn’t have extreme hot weather. Ideally temperatures don’t regularly go over 27 degrees.
*Where residents take pride in their gardens or window sills and are out gardening

Do you know such a place? If this sounds like your town/city, then get in touch ( especially if you have a home to house sit for 2-4 weeks. I would love to house sit your pets, get to know your town/city and why it is so special to live in. I will do a little write up of your town/city with photos and ratings. I am next house sitting in New Zealand from June 2017 so may be you know of a special place in New Zealand?
